BONG BONG! Getintothis picks our desert island discs for Dave Monks’ The Pool – you’ll never guess who one of the picks were…
It’s been a long time in coming since Dave Monks invited me to pop down to his studio at Radio Merseyside and record my top three records for his BBC Introducing session – The Pool.
In fact it’s been about three years! We first hooked up in, of all places, Dubai – for Dubai Sound City.
And since then I’ve tuned in to his Sunday show picking up innumerable tips on Liverpool bands while listening to some cracking sessions, and not to mention some lively debate including the return of Eric’s.
But for one reason or another it’s not happened. However, last week we finally got together and nailed it. It’s been said many a time I’ve got the perfect face for radio, and I’m certainly no good at the public speaking however, I enjoyed my time and Dave was very welcoming.
Picking three records was an impossible task, so I’ve simply opted for an artist who’s my hero and shaped my listening from the very beginning, a contemporary band who has changed the game immeasurably while also creating the decade’s best album and an artist for the future – who happened to make my second favourite track of last year.
So while it’s not my definitive top three – it’ll do for now.
You can listen to Dave’s session here and my top three is on around the 1 hour 33 minute mark…
…And here’s the full track from one of my picks. It’s Prince. Obviously.
