Festival Number 6 adds its woodland entertainment bill, Getintothis’ Peter Guy forages into the foliage for musical truffles.
Festival No.6 has announced its much-loved Lost in the Woods stage which will feature Badly Drawn Boy, Dutch Uncles and Jane Weaver.
The trio will play the Portmeirion-based festival on September 3-6 and join headliners Belle & Sebastian, Grace Jones and Metronomy, plus the likes of James Bay, British Sea Power and more.
Friday September 3 sees Mancunian troubadour Badly Drawn Boy perform and curate in celebration of the 15th anniversary of his landmark Mercury Prize winning album The Hour of Bewilderbeast. Helping him celebrate are John Shuttleworth, The Wedding Present performing a stripped down set of The Walk, Songs for Walter and former ACR bassist & vocalist Jez Kerr.
Badly Drawn Boy said: “It’ll be my third time at Festival No.6 and it’s an honour to curate the Lost in the Woods stage. It’s also a treat to have some very good mates join me across the day. Some of them are hopefully going to do a few covers from Bewilderbeast too so it should be a laugh.”
Dutch Uncles headline on Saturday night having put together a vibrant supporting bill including the mighty Cuz – the latest outfit by The Stooges‘ Mike Watt, Ian Black’s indie/prog triumph Slug, former Egyptian Hip Hop frontman Aldous RH, American indie rockers Aero Flynn and Mancunian pop artists Ménage à Trois.
Jane Weaver takes the reigns on the final day with a Bird Records showcase featuring a deliciously diverse bill including folk femme fatale Emma Tricca, Big Sexy Land co-creator and Hollywood 7 DJ John Doran, psychedelic popsters Novella, ethereal electronic folk from Paperdollhouse, experimental duo Let’s Eat Grandma, exotic prog/funk oddness from Orlando and DJ sets from Lady J and the Finders Keepers crew.
The Woodland raves will be powered by the Gottwood boys plus Future Boogie, Ralph Lawson, Danielle Moore (Crazy P), Wolf Music, eLDOKO and Dave Beer. Audio Farm’s Dugout features the serious party vibes of Pete Mangalore Black, Asher Jones, Bradford Dave and of course the Audio Farmers. Deep, deep into the tangle woods can be found the Dogon Village with We Light the Night serving up some primal dance directives courtesy of Ol Doinyo Lengai, Bird of Paradise, Elbe, Atlas Burden, Matt Walsh and Dreems.
Festival No.6 has also commissioned aerial acrobats Whispering Woods who will swing from the trees in the Gwyllt Woods, bringing ancient tales to life using circus acrobatics, live music and narrative to create a magical experience for all ages.
