The Wombats, Sigma, Mick Head and more have been announced for LIMF 2016, Getintothis’ Adam Lowerson has all the details, plus details of the Academy Class of 2016.

Liverpool International Music Festival has announced its first wave of artists for the 2016 festival, which takes place over new dates on July 21-24, including The Wombats, Sigma, Lianne La Havas and many more. This will be the first year that the free event at Sefton Park has not taken place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The main part of LIMF which is known as Summerjam is held at Sefton Park over three nights, will also feature a special headline performance from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra who will be performing some of Liverpool’s defining songs from its musical history, as well as sets from Netsky, Kwabs, Ms Dynamite, and Maverick Sabre.

The weekend will also see performances from scouse heroes John Power, Mick Head and the Red Elastic Band and Dave McCabe and the Ramifications, as well as the returning LIMF Academy, showcasing some of the finest rising talent on Merseyside.

This years event also sees the organisers hook up with those behind Liverpool Arab Arts Festival to bring some of the finest acts from the Arab world to the festival when LAAF takes over the spectacular Palm House on July 24. The line up will feature blistering sets from the likes of Yaz Fantazi Trio as well as showstoppers 47SOUL. With Whirling Durvish, Bruno Heinen and Kristian Borring also making an appearance, it’s promises to only add to the occasion.

The festival, which is now in its fourth year, will also feature a series of five Commissions, which are this year exploring the theme of ReDefinition. This will include From The Soul at the Philharmonic Hall, a night exploring British soul curated by 6Music’s Gilles Peterson, House Nation in association with Circus at Sefton Palm House, and From Eric’s To EVOL, a night celebrating Liverpool’s musical counter culture at the Guild of Students.

If that’s not enough for you you’ll be able to party on into the night with a number of after parties, including nights at 24 Kitchen Street and the Buyers Club on July 21 and 22.

Speaking on today’s announcement, LIMF Curator Yaw Owuso said, “LIMF continues to move forward in its ambition to be one of the most dynamic, diverse and inherently different festivals in Europe! Year four is all about us shining a light on re-defining musical moments and movements, as well as the artists that lead these! I hope that music lovers from anywhere and everywhere, of all ages and backgrounds, revel in a number of special experiences at LIMF 2016.”
