Liverpool Music Week’s Mike Deane

Liverpool publishing team and music week founder receive top accolades, Getintothis’ Lorna Dougherty on Merseyside’s latest industry nods.

In further acknowledgement of Liverpool‘s status as one of the country’s pre-eminent music cities, two of its most influential music industry figures have, this week, received further recognition.

Ditto Music has been included in a list of the top 25 labels/distributors compiled by Music Business Weekly, while Liverpool Music Week founder and director, Mike Deane, has been named a finalist for Live Agent of the Year at the 2017 Music Week Awards.

Barely older than a decade, Ditto was launched in 2007 in the bedroom of founders Matt and Lee Parsons. Originally from Birmingham, the two brothers relocated in order to benefit from Liverpool’s musical inspiration, with a manifesto to create an outlet to release music independently.

They have since grown from two staff in Elevator Studios to having offices in multiple US states, Melbourne and London. They now compete with major brand leaders such as Sony, Warner Brothers, and Universal, coming 24th on the list; achieving 850,703 song sales in 2016 coupled with 328,972,789 streams, but making their mark as the only true independent company on the list.

In addition to Mike Deane‘s latest nomination, Liverpool Music Week has been nominated for Best Festival Line Up for the past three years and has recently been crowned Best Metropolitan Festival at the 2016 UK Festival Awards in November.

Alongside running Liverpool Music Week, Deane is also a European agent for one of the world’s leading independent talent agencies Earth Music Agency. In the past 12 months in this role he has been recognised for his outstanding work with festivals and also his personal roster, representation and development of new, exciting, pre-debut album artists.

Deane is up against other well known music agents throughout the UK including Jules De Lattre of UTA and Adele‘s agent, Lucy Dickins of ITB.

Winners for all the Music Week Awards, will be announced at the awards night on April 5 later this year.
