Reverend and the Makers’ Jon McClure issue damning assessment of the UK music industry following Hope and Glory Festival cancellation.

Reverend and the Makers have issued a condemnatory statement of the UK music industry following the cancellation of Liverpool music festival Hope and Glory.

Hope and Glory organisers cancelled the festival after a catalogue of issues led to mass disappointment of the thousands who went to the festival following huge queues, artists cancelling, poor production and general mismanagement.

One of the bands affected by the second axed day was Reverend and the Makers, and their lead singer Jon McClure has taken to Twitter to launch a stinging attack on the industry as a whole.

McClure, writing in a statement posted on the band’s Twitter account, suggests there is a false ‘illusion’ of the UK music which has seen “at best amateurs, at worst gangsters flood the industry with their money imagining themselves as latter day Michael Eavis types when the reality is that their blatant disregard for health and safety and lack of knowledge of how these events should be undertaken is putting people at risk.”

In relation to Hope and Glory, McClure added: “The notion that an event could be dangerously over capacity in 2017 and in Liverpool of all places, where they have suffered so much after Hillsborough is baffling.

The entire second day of Hope and Glory was cancelled with the likes of Hacienda Classical, Lightning Seeds, Public Service Broadcasting and many more not playing.
