Montero

With the Aussie surrealist set for a swift return next month, Getintothis Amy Farnworth has all the details.

The surreal soft-rock sounds of Australian artist and musician, Ben Montero, are coming to The Shipping Forecast on Saturday, February 10.

Montero, as he’s better known, is a musician (complete with his band) who updates the romantic classicism of golden era love songs, and tinges and tints it with a metaphorical psychedelic pop brush.

Combining all the textures of 70s prog rock, he emphasises the melodies of his vocals and mixes this with vivid instrumentation and some dreamy glam pomp to create what his Facebook pages professes to be: ‘schmoopy pop.’

The gig at The Shipping Forecast marks the return of Montero to Europe after he toured with Mac Demarco back in November 2017.

This time around, Ben and the band embark on their own twelve date headline tour to promote the release of new album PerformerDue out on February 2, much of the album was co-produced with Jay Watson of Pond/Tame Impala, and Grammy Award winning engineer Riccardo Damian.

Recorded at Mark Ronson’s London studio, Performer includes the singles, Tokin’ The Night Away and Vibrations, both of which are available to pre-order now.

As a visual artist, Montero’s works have graced the album covers and merchandise for the likes of Kurt Vile, Pond and Mac DeMarco, and his colourful, comic-based styles have gained him a regular comic strip slot for the Vice website.
