Remée

Ahead of main stage appearances at both Africa Oyé and LIMF festivals this summer, Getintothis catches up with RnB singer-songwriter Remée.

Things are happening for Remée right now, and it is clear she’s more than ready for this next exciting phase in her career. Having recently graduated from LIMF Academy as one of their three most ready acts and with a degree from Liverpool Media Academy under her belt, the stage is set for her talents to be showcased to a much wider audience.

With past comparisons to Erykah Badu and Corinne Bailey Rae, Remée now has much more of an experimental feel to her singing and music. With a vibe that could easily be termed electro neo-soul together with intelligent lyrics and expertly crafted songs, she has chosen an alternative path and placed herself at the cutting edge of a new soul sound.

Her recent live appearance at Pirate Studios in London gave a taste of this fresh approach. She has an EP due to be finished in July.

As well as her festival appearances at Africa Oyé (June 16) and LIMF (July 21), Remée plays an intimate Africa Oyé after-party show in Sound Basement on June 16 and joins the LIV Happy Festival in Hoylake during the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Getintothis decided to delve a little deeper in the mind of this rising star.

  1. Where are you and what are you doing?

Currently at home, about to get a bath and watch Ibiza on Netflix.

  1. What is your favourite film?

I’d have to say all the Pirates of the Caribbean ones and any horror movie.

  1. What makes you frustrated?

A lot of things, especially people just being horrible to someone for no reason.

  1. Recommend one band or album that you think we should check out?

Definitely Cardi B’s new album … like, how could you not?  I’d also say PVRIS’s White Noise Album as well. (I went through a pop rock loving phase and this album is so good. Lynn Gunn‘s voice is so pretty).

  1. What’s your first memory?

I remember crying at nursery because I was scared of men and there was a man working in the nursery … I must have been thinking ‘What is this big beast? Get it away from me!’

  1. What would be your final meal if you were on death row?

100% crispy duck and pancakes!! With like a large Archies milkshake for after it.

  1. What was the first gig you went to?

I think it was the Black Eyed Peas, with the Pussycat Dolls. One of them was supporting the other … it was soooo good!

  1. Where did you last go on holiday?

Egypt for Christmas in 2016 with my sister and mum.

  1. Tell us a secret…

I secretly don’t know what I’m doing with my life, LOL. Help!

  1. Vinyl, CD, MP3 or Streaming?

I actually don’t even play vinyl but my mum has a record player and they look cool as fuck … so vinylsss!

  1. What’s your favourite season and why?

OMG … definitely autumn!! I love seeing all the crunchy orange leaves and Halloween is my favourite holiday. I wish Halloween lasted for a week so I could go do loads of scary mad stuff, instead of having to pick one thing to do on Halloween night! … it’s not fair!

  1. Do you have any pre-gig superstitions?

Not really, no … I just don’t really even think about it until I’m on the stage, otherwise I’ll start overthinking and probably get nervous. Maybe pre-gig superstitions will come for me in the future.

  1. Do you have anything else to declare?

LOL. Yeah … I think there’s gonna be a zombie apocalypse in the future, and I’m okay with it because I feel like I’m a low key ninja and would save everyone.
