Paul McCartney returns to Liverpool on his Freshen Up tour, Getintothis’ Peter Guy has the news on The Beatles stars’ festive spectacular.

Paul McCartney will play Liverpool Echo Arena on Wednesday December 12.

McCartney, who plays the Echo Arena for the first time since 2015, announced his Freshen Up tour earlier this week starting in Canada in September.

As well as the Liverpool homecoming gig, The Beatles star plays Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on Friday December 14 – his first Scottish concert in almost a decade – and London’s O2 Arena on Sunday December 16.

The new tour dates confirmed this week mark Paul’s first series of live dates since the One On One Tour that played to more than two million fans during 2016-2017.

As reported on GetintothisMcCartney’s Liverpool date was hinted at in a succession of depicting his iconic bass guitar around notable places in Liverpool, including in front of the Eleanor Rigby statue on Stanley St, outside the Philharmonic Pub – where McCartney recently played a secret gig – and outside the Cavern Club.

Last month, McCartney returned to Liverpool to give James Corden a tour of where he grew up as part of The Late Late Show’s Carpool Karaoke feature. He was also made a Companion Of Honour for his contribution to music. He is only one of a few musicians to receive the honour, including Vera Lynn and opera singer Janet Baker.

The Freshen Up tour will also be Paul’s first outing following the release of his brand new studio album, Egypt Station, out September 7 on Capitol Records.

McCartney last played the Echo Arena in June 2015 and played Beatles classics including Eight Days A WeekI’m Looking Through YouLovely Rita and Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! plus the 1980 electronic oddity Temporary Secretary.

On his Liverpool Arena date, McCartney, said: “There’s nothing like performing in front of your home crowd, especially when it’s been a while.

I can’t wait to finish the year on such a high by partying in Liverpool, Glasgow and London. We’ve freshened up the show since our last time round and we are excited to get to play some of our new songs along side some of the favourites.”

Freshen Up will begin in Canada in September for four shows before heading to the US for Paul’s headline performance at the 17th annual Austin City Limits festival in October.
