LIPA graduates The Wombats have announced their biggest ever UK headline tour, Getintothis’ James Szumowski reports.

The Wombats are heading out on a UK tour in promotion of their fourth studio album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life.

The six dates will see the band travel around some of the biggest venues in Britain. Starting at Glasgow’s O2 Academy and taking in trips to Leeds’ First Direct Arena, Newport’s Newport Centre and both Bournemouth and Birmingham’s O2 Academy’s before the closing date at London’s historic SSE Arena, Wembley.

The tour will see The Wombats promoting their fourth album, as well as delving in to their back catalogue to reel off classic guitar laden hits like Moving to New York, Let’s Dance to Joy Division, Greek Tragedy and Tokyo – Vampires and Wolves.

Now in their 11th year, The Wombats have fine-tuned their sound and their identity. Forming at LIPA in 2007, they have moved from foot-stomping dance-floor fillers to more melodic, considered and diverse releases.

The Courteeners announce UK tour including Liverpool Echo Arena date

Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’s first single, Lemon to a Knife Fight, opens with acoustic guitar and journeys through xylophonic melody and sudden, staccato dance beats. Topped off with a classic Wombats ‘hands in the air’ chorus, Lemon to a Knife Fight takes the listener on a journey through the sonic scope of the album in microcosm.

Now with a tour that matches the size of their fanbase, The Wombats can finally be seated at the top table of British guitar pop music.

The Wombats will play:

Friday, Jan 25 – Glasgow, O2 Academy
Saturday, Jan 26 – Leeds, First Direct Arena
Monday, Jan 28 – Newport, Centre
Tuesday, Jan 29 – Bournemouth, O2 Academy
Thursday, Jan 31 – Birmingham, O2 Academy
Friday, Feb 1 – London, SSE Arena
