Shame are playing this year’s Sound City

With the bank holiday and Sound City ahead, it’s a big week for gigs and Getintothis’ Simon Kirk has all the details.

So, the good weather was short-lived. Shock horror. Have no fear, though – if you can believe it, the weather forecast is looking okay this week in the lead-up to the bank holiday which, of course, includes Sound City.

It’s a massive week and in what is arguably Liverpool’s premier event on the live music calendar, Sound City is set to provide everything us lovers of music could ever bargain for.

The line-up appears to be more eclectic every year and in 2019 it’s no different, with something for everyone’s taste. It’s Sound City‘s greatest asset and for that they deserve much credit. Stay tuned next weekend as we’ll be reporting from the ground each day, with our main story from the event to drop on Monday.

There is plenty of happenings in the lead-up to Sound City, too. Our Deep Cuts event this Thursday night is always one not to miss while the Smithdown Road Festival provides a nice alternative for those looking to avoid large crowds in the city for the bank holiday weekend. The Coathangers gig at the Arts Club looks like a good night is set to unfold, too.

If you’re going to Sound City or the Smithdown Road Festival, take sunscreen, don’t drink too much in the sun and, above all else, have a great time.

Here’s our top picks from this week’s action:

The Coathangers

The Coathangers: Arts Club, Loft, Tuesday April 30

Atlanta garage punk trio, The Coathangers, arrive on Seel Street on the back of their excellent new long-player, the band’s sixth, The Devil You Know, which packs a fine punch.

This band will ease the burden of your Tuesday blues, with plenty of riffs and an equal amount of fists in the air.  With support coming from local mischief makers Piss Kitti and Salt The Snail, it’s looking to be a riot of a night.

Foundlings

Deep Cuts #26 ft. TRACKY, Foundlings, Kangaroos and more: Jacaranda Phase One, Thursday May 2

To get you warmed up for Sound City, our Deep Cuts event is sure to get you in the mood.

London post-punk, Foundlings, make the trip up to Merseyside and will be joined by locals The Shunt and Kangarooswhile Ormskirk’s favourite son, TRACKY will launch his new single, Boys In Black.

Clean Cut Kid

Clean Cut Kid: Cavern Club, Friday, Friday May 3

As a part of Sound City, Liverpool’s Clean Cut Kid take the stage at the Cavern in support of their new album, Painwave, which was released at the end of March.

This one’s an early show folks, with the band set to perform at 4pm so don’t snooze on this.

Fat White Family live review: Jacaranda Phase One

SOAK

SOAK: District, Friday May 3

Bridie Monds-Watson (better known to us as SOAK) returns to the city on the back of her brand new album, Grim Town, which was released last Friday.

The Northern Irish singer-songwriter has captured the imagination of many over the last couple of years and Grim Town is her finest effort yet. Not to miss, people.

Sorry

Sorry: Sound Food and Drink, Friday May 3

Having just released their new single, Jelous Guy, London post-punk natives, Sorryare ready to tear up the Sound basement in what looks set to be quite a wild Friday night.

The band are also supporting the Fat White Family on a few up and coming dates so if that’s your bag then maybe this is, too.

Yammerer

Smithdown Road Festival 2019: Various Venues, Wednesday May 1 – Monday May 6

Whilst Sound City is set to take place in the Baltic Triangle, the Smithdown Road Festival is a nice alternative for those looking for something a little less chaotic where crowds are concerned.

Set to take place over nine venues, there’s a fine array of local talent set to take over South Liverpool for the bank holiday weekend. Our picks are Ali Horn, Yammerer and Rongo Rongo. Did we mentioned it’s free? Yup.

Say Sue Me

Liverpool Sound City 2019: Various Venues, Friday 3rd May – Sunday May 5 2019
