As the Jacaranda announces its inaugural music forum, Getintothis’ Luke Halls has the details.

The Music Managers Forum (MMF) has teamed up with Jacaranda Records to bring their exclusive workshop and industry panel to Liverpool for the first time.

Promising an exciting lineup of guests and fruitful networking opportunities, the event on 13 December will engage speakers and visitors in a dialogue exploring the challenges facing today’s music industry.

The event is aimed at local managers, musicians and aspiring entrepreneurs keen to widen their experience of the commercial and legal side of the musical landscape. The main event is a day-long Music Contract Negotiation workshop, which aims to equip attendees with the tools to help navigate the legal quagmire of the music business. The workshop promises to advise on protecting your business, careers and intellectual property from amoral characters operating within the industry.

The firm’s 50+ staff cover five specialist divisions, including touring and business management, royalties and audit. Longley started in the business as managing director of Factory Records, he has also managed a boy band or two.

There are limited spaces for the contract workshop, tickets are priced at £20 and available here.

Following later in the evening, a panel of industry professionals will kick off the MMF‘s networking event, headlined as Redefining Roles in the Music Industry. Paul Craig, MMF Chair and manager to Scottish rock group Biffy Clyro will head the panel, joined by Barry Dallman (North of England Officer at Musician’s Union); Dr. Mike Jones (Institute of Popular Music, University of Liverpool); Iain S Bruce (Jacaranda Records and former Head of Production at UMG); Steve Cusack (CD Baby) and Eric Longley.
