Mildlife

Virtuoso space-jazzers Mildlife have a new album and single ready to go, Getintothis’ Matthew Eland has the scoop.

Mildlife, the Australian jazz/psych/disco quartet, have announced the release of their new album, Automatic.

Automatic will be available on September 18, 2020, via Heavenly Recordings.

This follows on from their debut Phase, released back in 2018.

Mildlife have released new single, Rare Air, offering fans the first taste of the new album.

The group describe the track as being about ‘longing for clarity in the suffocating grip of everyday tedium. Wondering what life could or will be but trying to be present despite the temptation to endlessly pontificate every decision.’

Mildlife were determined to make a more disciplined, directional and danceable record than their debut.

The recorded songs kind of become the new reference point for playing the songs live,’ says vocalist Kevin McDowell. ‘They both have different outcomes and we make our decisions for each based on that, but they’re symbiotic and they both influence each other. It’s usually a fairly natural flow from live to recorded back to live.’

In news sure to delight funkadelic spiral-dwellers everywhere, the band have promised that the vinyl edition of the LP will have a special locked-groove feature, enabling the record to be played on an infinite loop, which means potentially forever. Groovy!
