Modern Nature announced debut album details last month, now Getintothis’ Cath Holland has the scoop on the band’s first UK headline tour.

Modern Nature – the new project courtesy of Jack Cooper (Ultimate Painting, Mazes), Will Young (BEAK>), and Aaron Nevue (Woods) – shot right out of the starting blocks in March with debut ep Nature.

The beautiful contemporary wind chamber music and the exploration of folk, and wild, spiritual jazz had us swooning, follow up single Peradam last month only serving to bewitch even more.

The band – who have a fluid line up in mind – have debut album How To Live due from Bella Union on 23 August.

The album was recorded a year ago at Gizzard Studios in London predominantly live to two inch tape. Rupert Gillett added cello and Jeff Tobias (Sunwatchers) played saxophone.

The endless feel of How to Live was inspired by Cooper’s experience making his 2017 solo album Sandgrown. It was the first time he made a record with a defined theme – a suite of songs about his hometown of Blackpool – and imposing a narrative framework turned out to be refreshingly liberating.

“When I started thinking about a new project,” he recalls, “going back to making an album of unconnected songs seemed as strange as making a movie with completely unconnected scenes,’

Shortly after How To Live‘s release, Modern Nature will tour the UK which will be followed –  fingers crossed – with dates in Europe and North America.
