Reasons to be cheerful:
1. Nebraska troubadour Josh Rouse is rolling into Liverpool on Thursday with his Long Vacations collective, bringing with him some much-needed sunshine and good vibes.
Getintothis has long been an admirer of Mr Rouse (Joshua to his ma), with it’s carefree swagger and infectious melodies (not to mention the cheeky bit of flute and sax) his breakthrough record 1972 was a staple on our jukebox way back in 2003, and it’s a real coup he’s popping into the city – one of only five UK dates.
Reasons to be cheerful:
2. Rouse is playing, The Black-E, one of a number of hot new emerging venues in the city.
Described by promoters Harvest Sun as ‘a mini version of the Paradiso in Amsterdam’, the former Great George Street Congregational Chapel is steeped in history.
The Chapel was designed, built, furnished and opened in 18 months after the first church on the site (built in 1811) was destroyed by fire in 1840. The chapel cost £13,992 to build and seated almost 2,000. It became popularly known as ‘Liverpool’s Third Cathedral’.
It’s popularly known as the Blackie (now the Black-E) deriving from shortened version of ‘The Black Church’ – a description of the Chapel in the 60s after being covered with over a 100 years of inner-city smoke and grime. Though the stone was cleaned in the 1980s the building still retains its name.
Reasons to be cheerful:
3. Now you know Josh is playing and you’ve swatted up on your history – you can win a pair of passes to his gig on Thursday simply by adding us on Twitter and answering the following question and add hash tag #JoshRouse

a) Notorious B.I.G.
