Liverpool Sound City reveals the festival location, Getintothis’ Peter Guy looks ahead to the 2018 event.
Liverpool Sound City will take place in the Baltic Triangle with Cains Brewery providing the focal point.
Sound City, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday May 5-6, will take place across a number of warehouses, outdoor stages and pop-up spaces across Liverpool.
The setting will bring Sound City back to its roots with around 250 bands promised across two full days of live music.
Organisers suggest the first artists will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Shifting the focus to back to the festival’s original blueprint, inner city venues will be utilised along with key national brands and Merseyside creatives who will curate billings across Liverpool.
Among those selecting the bill are Glastonbury’s Silver Hayes, BBC Introducing, Kendal Calling, record labels Domino, Heavenly Recordings, Moshi Moshi and Ninja Tune alongside Merseyside music staples Bido Lito! and Getintothis.
Becky Ayres, Sound City’s COO, said: “We are all very happy to be bringing Sound City back to its roots and hosting 2018’s weekend in May in the Baltic Triangle.
“It’s the perfect place to really capture the magic of what Sound City was always built upon, and what we are bringing back – taking in lots of inspiring and wild shows, all within minutes’ walk from each other, with a vast range of live artists, DJs, label heads, creatives, industry icons, producers, performers and more.
Ayres added: “We are working with what we know are some of Liverpool’s finest venues so everyone has a plenty of choice over the weekend, from cavernous spaces to truly intimate hideaways, and are currently putting together a suitable eclectic and forward-thinking lineup which mirrors the Baltic Triangle’s spirit.
“We are bringing back the spirit of discovery to Sound City, and can’t wait to release our first wave of names soon.”
