We say goodbye to 2018 with yet more gigs, as Getintothis’ Simon Kirk has all the details in the final gig guide of the year.
So, it’s here. The end of 2018. There’s no need to get dewy-eyed about it. This happens every year after all. If you like reflections, resolutions, football, or just a good old-fashioned booze-up then enjoy whatever it is you plan to do to bring in the new year.
Like last week, we’ve recycled a fair bit from our Christmas and New Years gig and events guide below, but there are a few bits added that may pique your interest.
So, we hope you haven’t stuffed your face with so much food over the Christmas period that you can’t get off the couch and get along to one of these events.
From all of us here at Getintothis we say top of the new year to you. Here’s hoping it’s a good one!
Eggy New Year: Sound Food and Drink, Monday December 31
So, this looks like the place to be. Five quid for a slew of great local bands, affordable booze and a nice canopy to avoid the rain whilst having a ciggy.
Who’s playing, you ask? Try this for size: Jo Mary, Wild Fruit Art Collective, SPQR, Beija Flo, Samurai Kip
The Floormen, Bill Nickson, The Blurred Sun Band, Hannah and the Wick Effect, Ana Mae, Astles
Loose Nuts, Dan Disgrace and Silver Linings.
Jacaranda Records Label – New Years Eve Party: Jacaranda Phase One, Monday December 31
Looks a goodun, this. Yes, the Jacaranda Record Label New Years Eve Party, with artists the label will be working with in 2019.
Circus Presents New Year’s Eve: Arts Club, Monday December 31
If you wish to engage in the carnage of Seel Street on New Year’s Eve, then the Arts Club looks like the place to be. Local producer, Yousef, will be dropping his techno and house to punters to see in the New Year.
303 New Year’s Eve: Constellations, Monday December 31
Those wanting to escape the chaos of town along with isolation of house parties, then Constellations might just be the happy medium. Danny Howells will be making his 303 debut. This night will include everything from disco to house to, of course, techno.
Fiesta Bombarda NYE Intergalactic Carnival: Invisible Wind Factory, Monday December 31
It might be cold down on the waterfront at this time of year, but what the Invisible Wind Factory has in store will get your blood flowing to negate the weather with plenty of African, funk, jungle, and reggae in the shape of the Bombarda Mothership.
Celebrations include a one-time performance from the Intergalactic Karaoke Ensemble, a group comprising up of the Kazimier collective and Planet Earth’s greatest New Year’s Eve bangers! Other acts include Channel One, the Renegade Brass Band.
A Love From Outer Space Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston: The Merchant, Monday December 31
Perennial residents and night owners of A Love From Outer Space, Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston are bringing their “intrepid post-punk bombast with proto-house and that of acid-house” to New Year’s Eve.
If tech-house is a bit too much and Fiesta Bombarda is a bit too heavy, then your middle ground is right here.
