With Boomtown 2016 just a month away, Getintothis’ Mike Bennett counts down the days to one of the fastest-growing festivals in the UK.

A mesmeric adventure into the unknown basing its structure, site and theme around a “made-up history that mirrors the current global economic climate”, a quiet corner of the Hampshire countryside is transformed into a vast and elaborate fantasy paradise for society’s misfits and escapists for BoomTown Fair 2016. It’s a chance to hang up the nine to five shirt and tie and plunge head first into four days of pure unadulterated madness spread across nine elaborately built districts, 24 main stages and over eighty totally unique street venues and sides shows.

A futuristic dystopia packed with carnival themes and outrageous other-worldly delights, visitors can tailor make their ideal experience or just let the weekend work its magic as a plethora of acts reign across the grounds of the Matterly Estate spanning all genres from D&B, jungle, reggae and house to garage, punk-rock, dub, world and ska.

Last year, BoomTown‘s Kate Hellon said: BoomTown is like no other festival, it’s an immersive world of theatre, audio visuals mind blowing sets and fully interactive streets, the storyline and characters help bring all this to life, along with the incredible citizens of BoomTown! We are now on Chapter 7 and the story is worth a read”. This year’s Chapter 8 then is certain to be something special.

If you thought Leftfield blew the roof off at Sound City 2016 then catching them at BoomTown‘s infamous Town Centre “where the ground throbs and walls dance” will truly erupt your senses. With a melting pot of headliners such as Parov Stelar, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Madness, Damian Marley, Fat Freddy’s Drop and many more billed for this monstrous event, it’s an event not to be passed up.

Also appearing on the bill: Levellers, Afro Celt Sound System, Asian Dub Foundation, Babylon Circus, Bad Manners, Beardyman, Imelda May, Joe Driscoll & Seckou Kouyate, Lau, Los De Abajo, The Melbourne Ska Orchestra and The Electric Swing Circus.

BoomTown will take place August 11-14 at Matterly Estate, Winchester, Hampshire. Visit www.boomtownfair.co.uk for full line up and information.
