The reggae legends return to the city after a three year hiatus, as Getintothis’ Shaun Ponsonby reports.

Reggae legends Toots and the Maytals are making their anticipated return to Liverpool with a massive show at the Olympia.

The Maytals are one of the most beloved groups in Jamaica’s history, chalking up decades of hits and iconic Reggae songs such as Monkey Man, Pressure Drop, Sweet and Dandy, 54-46 Was My Number. They also have the distinction of their 1968 single Do The Reggay being the source of the word “Reggae” itself.

Always a popular live act, Toots was forced to quit touring after being struck by a bottle on stage in 2013. The incident left him with a concussion and crippling stage fright. It took him three years to recover from the incident, and he finally returned to the stage in 2016.

This will be their first appearance in the city since their return to the stage, and if past visits are anything to go by, it’s going to be one punky reggae party.

  • Toots & The Maytals play the Olympia, Liverpool on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Tickets on general sale Friday.
