Julianna Barwick has announced a new album will be released in the summer, as well as a brand new single and video, Getintothis’ Emilie Clark feeds back.

Julianna Barwick has announced the release of her new album, Healing Is A Miracle.

It’s to be released on July 10, via her new record label Ninja Tune.

Healing Is A Miracle arises four years after the release of critically acclaimed LP, Will.

The album will feature new single, Inspirit, which was released earlier this month.

Barwick creates dream-like soundscapes using electronic loops and layers of her choral style voice.

Inspirit is a prime example of this, it uses reverb to create an abstract, trancelike atmosphere. This signature sound will feature heavily on Healing Is A Miracle.

A video for the new single has also been released, which features stunning aerial drone shots of Iceland’s breathtaking coastline, a place close to Barwick’s heart. The awe-inspiring visuals match the ethereal music perfectly.

The title itself was spawned from the notion of how the human body repairs itself – something incredible that we often take for granted: “You cut your hand, it looks pretty bad, and two weeks later it looks like it never happened.

“That’s kind of amazing, you know?” And from there, the statement title was cultivated.

Barwick completed the album with the help of three good friends – Jónsi, of Sigur Rós; celebrated electronic producer Nosaj Thing and classically trained harpist Mary Lattimore – who have collaborated with her and added their own flair to help lift the album to an even higher calibre.

Barwick had previously worked with Jónsi on her 2013 album Nepenthe, and the pair have been looking for ways to collaborate ever since.

Outside of her recording life, Barwick has cooperated with some astounding acts over the years, such as Bon Iver, Grouper, Explosions in the Sky, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, Perfume Genius, Mas Ysa, and Nat Baldwin.

In addition to this, she has also featured in The Flaming Lips Carnegie Hall show alongside Phillip Glass, Debbie Harry, Laurie Anderson and Patti Smith; as well as being invited to perform with Yoko Ono.

Julianna Barwick hopes to be on tour throughout North America and Europe in late 2020/ 2021.
