Nubya Garcia has released new music the in form of her new song, Pace, Getintothis’ Peter Goodbody has the details.

Award winning saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia unveils her lavish, almost 8 minute single, Pace.

Pace is jointly produced by Garcia and celebrated producer Kwes (Nérija, Bobby Womack, Solange), and features additional instrumentation from her talented bandmates; Joe Armon-Jones (keys), Daniel Casimir (double bass) and Sam Jones (drums).

The single is Garcia’s first release on Concord Jazz having recently signed with the label.

Pace mimics the hustle and hyper-productivity of modern life, a mode of living that, Garcia reflects, can leave us: “very isolated and disconnected from ourselves and each other”.

Contrasting moments of calm act as an antidote, “like sweeping your hands for stillness before you go back out again, on whatever journey you’re on”, and overall Garcia seeks to inspire listeners to “think on what makes each of us joyful, what things we personally reach towards to feel grounded”.

Pace follows Garcia’s two highly-acclaimed EPs: 2017’s Nubya’s 5ive and 2018’s When We Are.

She also features on five of the nine tracks on We Out Here, the landmark compilation celebrating London’s thriving jazz scene.
