Getintothis‘ monthly Deep Cuts returns on October 5, Peter Guy reflects on another tasty happening.

In case you haven’t realised there’s no formula as to who we select to play our monthly Deep Cuts gigs – it’s quite simply who we really like.

This month’s offering is no different. But in a slight break with tradition, we’ve lined up one of our long loves: VEYU. We first wrote about them way back in 2013 and there’s been much justified eulogising ever since. Fact is, there’s still few better bands both in the studio and on the live circuit in the North West.

Last this writer saw them was on Sefton Park for Liverpool International Music Festival, where they aired a couple of new tunes from their latest sessions. They have released Underbelly, their debut mini record this year, and it’s a sign of their artistic restlessness and creative endeavor that there’s more fine music in the offing so soon after that release.

The band are expected to play a few of these new tracks, alongside ones from Underbelly, at Getintothis‘ Deep Cuts at Buyers Club on October 5. You’d be foolish to miss out.

Lining up with VEYU are four new acts we’re hugely excited about. Chris Torpey, editor at Bido Lito! put us on to the precocious talent of Wirral dream-pop songwriter Bill Nickson; and what a talent. Cracked lovelorn odes give way to swooning vocals and quite irresistible melodies, belying his years – we’ve yet to see him on the stage, so we’re chuffed to have him.

Similarly, newly formed Eyesore and the Jinx – a brand new outfit from the lads behind Tear Talk. Having played just once, at the Strange Collective Invisible Wind Factory all-dayer, this will be many people’s first taste of the new direction from Josh Miller and co’s new sounds.

Our final two bands are The Movamahs and We Were Glue – two wildly different but equally fresh of the bat boss new bands from the region. The former we saw at Skeleton Coast and were blown away by their brutal energy and furious rock and roll, the latter another of the acts we’ve yet to see live but were immediately sold by their choppy, infectious pop racket debut track, Birthday.

  • Full details: Deep Cuts #9 October 5, 7.30pm featuring VEYU, Bill Nickson, Eyesore and the Jinx, The Movamahs and We Were Glue – £5 OTD.

Here’s a look back at our August Deep Cuts at Buyers which featured Wildfires, CYRO, Deja Vega, Violet Youth, Rival Bones and the DJ talents of Hail Hail Records – we had a real swell time. Roll on October 5 for the next one.
