PRS Foundation continues its Momentum Music Fund with Hooton Tennis Club among 2016’s beneficiaries

Having funded artists including Bill Ryder-Jones, Stealing Sheep and Låpsley, Arts Council England have pledged continuing support to the fund, as GetintothisDavid Hall reports.

Arts Council England have confirmed their continued backing of the Momentum Music Fund delivered by PRS for Music Foundation, to the tune of a further £1 million. To coincide with this, Spotify has confirmed it too will continue its support as digital partner for the same period.

This allows PRS for Music Foundation, the UK’s leading charitable funder of new music and talent development across all genres, to continue running their Momentum Music Fund for another two years.

The fund started in 2013 and has invested in over 120 diverse artists, including chart-toppers Years & Years, Merseyside talent and GIT Award nominee Låpsley and, for this year’s fund, Hooton Tennis ClubLiverpool Sound City 2016 acts Kagoule and Levelz plus many more top UK talent.

Arts Council England has invested £250k -£500k per year, which has seen the fund support the recording of 72 new albums as well as some 100 UK tours, totalling over 650 UK live dates, since its inception. According to their own figures, every £1 invested by Momentum has generated £7.46 for the UK music industry.

“Momentum’s impact over the past 3 years demonstrate that this is not only a hugely popular fund, but a transformational one, which is having a positive impact on the careers of over 120 artists,” says Vanessa Reed, Executive Director of PRS for Music Foundation, “We’re delighted that Arts Council England continues to recognise the importance of this fund for independent music which we’ve been running on their behalf since 2013.”

The next deadline for the Momentum Music Fund is Tuesday, August 9. Artists can apply through their website.
