The GIT Award trophy, exclusively designed by Liverpool artist Sam Venables, is revealed ahead of Friday’s show at Leaf.
Bold, distinctive, unique, contemporary and utterly Liverpudlian – Sam Venables‘ artwork is a perfect companion for the first GIT Award.
The striking piece will be presented to one of the 12 nominees on Friday’s show at Leaf on Bold Street – as they are crowned winner of the GIT Award 2012.
Sam, who is director at the Royal Standard, an artist-led gallery, studios and social workspace in Liverpool, said: ‘I’m made up to have been asked to make the GIT Award.
‘Liverpool music is ace and I’m excited to attend the award evening on Friday.‘
GIT Award founder, Peter Guy said: ‘It’s my intention to ask a Liverpool artist to design the award each year – and I’m delighted that Sam has created such stunning pieces for the first year.
‘There’s a thriving, incredible arts scene in Liverpool and many of the artists work with the music scene all the time so it seemed only natural for the GIT Award to celebrate this partnership.‘
All 12 shortlisted artists will receive keepsakes on the night being made by Milk – a design agency on Bold Street, Liverpool.
