Aphex Twin

Beat-obliterator Aphex Twin releases his first video in 17 years, Getintothis’ Ste Knight senses another publicity stunt is unfolding.

Electronic producer Aphex Twin is set to release a new EP, Cheetah, following on from 2015’s Orphaned DeeJay Selek 2006-2008.

The track exhibits a harder edge than recent work and features some fine drum programming alongside Richard James‘ trademark acid warbles.

The accompanying video, according to an accompanying press release, was directed by 12-year-old Dubliner, Ryan Wyer, who was commissioned by Warp Records to “create the video after Aphex Twin discovered his work through his YouTube channel epic1:40d Gaming.”

Knowing Richard‘s past form for pulling pranks on the media industry (he once told an unsuspecting reporter that he drove around in a tank), we wouldn’t put it past him if this was another publicity stunt. You never quite know.

One thing is for certain, the EP is due for release on July 8 – check out the video below.
