The The

Seminal post-punk band The The revealed as first Festival Number 6 headliner, Getintothis’ Craig MacDonald on next year’s happening in Portmeirion.

Festival Number 6 has announced the first headliner for next years gathering taking place from 6-9 September, with legendary post punk outfit The The set to grace the Welsh spectacular with their presence.

The seminal new wave icons will be making their only UK appearance outside London upon their visit to Portmeirion and will cement their return to the fold following a near 15 year hiatus, with fans hopeful of more new material following their Record Store Day collaboration with Johnny Marr earlier in the year.

Seen by many as a beacon of hope in Thatcher’s desolate Britain, Matt Johnson and co will follow up the release of their Radio Cineola: Trilogy boxset and the critically acclaimed The Inertia Variations documentary with a sold out series of concerts in the capital in June 2018, as they play their first live dates in sixteen years following their incredible performance at David Bowie’s Meltdown.

It’s a mark of the ever-growing stature of Festival Number 6 that they’ve managed to get The The to play at Portmeirion and that it’s their only UK show apart from the aforesaid ones at the Royal Albert Hall..

The The’s Infected at 30: Out of the blue and into the fire

Johnson is clearly excited for their headline slot at Festival Number 6 next year as he said, “In recent years I’ve watched with great interest how Festival No.6 has grown into the most vibrant festival in the UK. We are delighted to be headlining in 2018 and look forward to contributing to a fantastic festival with lots of wonderful people in the most idyllic setting imaginable.”

With today’s announcement continuing to show a return to form from Festival Number 6 organisers, chances are that early bird tickets will soon be snapped up when they are released next week.
