One Fine Day, Liverpool

One Fine Day is Leaf’s newest venture and holds some beautiful surprises behind closed doors as Getintothis’ Del Pike discovered.

One Fine Day on Old Hall Street is the fifth venue in the North West to be opened by Leaf.

Their premises on Bold Street has fast become the go to place for great food and drink in beautiful surroundings, offering a superb arts space upstairs.

Since spreading their wings with Oh Me Oh My on Water Street, a café space in FACT and a sister Leaf in Manchester, they have now moved into the ground floor of The Cotton Exchange, a minute’s walk from Moorfields Station.

The building where One Fine Day resides had until the renovation seen better days, once fronted by beautiful neoclassical columns and elegant stone steps, the building would rival any of the wonderful structures on William Brown Street and was home to the world’s cotton traders for decades.

The front of the building was inexplicably dismantled in the 1960s and replaced with a modern façade which in comparison is dreadful.

Step inside One Fine Day, and you can forget about the grim exterior as you are welcomed by a cosy, yet modern city bar, restaurant and event space.

The layout is not dissimilar to Hus on Tithebarn Street and fits the profile of the ever-evolving business district of the city.

Spacious and enticing the décor is attractive but not distracting making for a very desirable eating space.

The menu offers regionally sourced, sustainable food, with veggie, vegan and meat dishes to choose from. The bar is well stocked with a range of local ales and cocktails with a DIY ethic.

Designed by their own staff with a tendency towards healthiness with low sugar ingredients and house made shrubs, herbs and flowers, they are well worth a try. Being a Leaf venue, there is, as always, a large range of loose leaf teas.

Their motto Rising. Midway. After Dark is given credence by their all-day regime, starting with a breakfast service that includes a takeaway option, a tempting lunchtime menu and evening menu and the option to stick around until after dark for cocktails.

Bar manager, Alison Kay described how it is the perfect place for city workers who need a calming space to do some work or relax at the end of a busy day.

Alison led us into the back room, which is perhaps the real selling point here. Feeling a little like those children who explored a wardrobe and found Narnia, we discover.

A vast open space that has retained the marble columns and elaborate ceilings of the original Cotton Exchange. It is breath-taking as you enter.

A modern bar contrasts perfectly with the historic surroundings and is graceful enough to not spoil the atmosphere.

The space has already played host to one large event and is available for parties, weddings and music performances.

The surroundings would certainly add a touch of class to any event and sits incredibly well in this area of town.
