Ahead of King Khan and the Shrines’ April show at Phase One, Getintothis’ Andy Sunley dives into what we can expect from their highly anticipated return to Liverpool.
Those who witnessed King Khan and Louder Than Death‘s energetic set last September at the Zanzibar were not disappointed.
Getintothis’ Lucy McLachlan certainly enjoyed herself, calling the night “a blast of gnarly, fun punk…A raucous rowdy party that does not stop.”
Just reading the review made this writer jealous for not being there to witness the mosh pits and audience singalongs. It must have been quite an event in such an intimate venue.
Whether it is with his psych rock/soul band The Sensational Shrines or with Mark Sultan under the moniker King Khan & BBQ Show, Canadian artist, producer and musician King Khan has a reputation as an energetic, entertaining and eccentric performer.
After the aforementioned show he kindly and with some hyperbole declared his visit to our city as “The wildest night of the tour!”
On April 11, the man whose arse was intimately and infamously acquainted with party girl Lindsay Lohan’s face at a backstage party in Cannes (an incident photographed and sensationally reported on by TMZ and Vice) returns with his Sensational Shrines to play renowned Seel Street venue Phase One.
Also on the bill are Leeds outfit The See No Evils and The Brigantians.
If this was not enough to tempt you out on a Saturday night, DJ Carl Combover will be joined by Johnny Alpha to spin what promoters The Go-Go Cage and No Fun describe as “Surf Twang, 60’s Garage, Punk Rock, Sleazy Intros, Greasy R&B and Soul Shouters!”
The tour also includes a date at London’s Oslo before heading off to Continental Europe. It looks like it will be a memorable night in Phase One. Mark your calendars and bring a helmet!
