Jessy Lanza has announced third album, All The Time, and shares brand new song, Face. Getintothis’ Emilie Clark provides you with the details.

Producer, DJ and vocalist Jessy Lanza has announced she will be releasing her third album, All The Time, via Hyperdub.

The album will be released on 24th July 2020 and is her first in four years, following the success of Oh No in 2016.

She has also released brand new track Face, the second song to be released from All The Time – the first being Lick In Heaven which was released earlier this year.

Jessy discusses the inspiration behind new track, Face, discussing that she thought up the idea while on the New York subway – thinking about the discussions that the passengers would have when in the privacy of their own homes.

“I found myself projecting my own feelings onto the strangers I was looking at.

I went home and wrote the lyrics imagining that the commuters were having telepathic conversations with each other.

The questions I imagined them asking each other oscillated from sexual to confrontational: ‘Baby is it just enough? Tell me do you want it all? Baby, are you feeling tough? Feeling tougher more than not?’”

Once she had laid down the lyrics and drum and bass rhythms, she approached song-writing partner Jeremy Greenspan who helped to finish the song with synth beats and yelping dog sounds from his modular synthesizer.

The video for Face was made relatively on the spur of the moment, using just their immediate surroundings, with flashing rainbow lights strobing to illuminate ordinary, everyday scenes and objects.

The electronic number features Lanza’s signature soprano tone and subdued pop style.

Lanza has previously referred to her style of song-writing as post-modern, stating that her music is an amalgamation of all of the songs that she likes from the past 40 years.

The two singles released so far from All The Time have been vastly different, proving that this album is not one that we can predict – and we can’t wait to hear what else it has to offer.
