MAS Records – a Liverpool record label like no other

Meet the man behind MAS Records, the new Liverpool record label offering artists free rehearsal time and complete ownership of copyright. What’s the catch? …There really isn’t one.

Established in the West Midlands a little over ten years ago, MAS Records offers traditional A&R to bands looking to make music their life.
Now it’s headed for Liverpool.
Funded by the Government, this completely not for profit organisation exists to offer advice and support for bands that are committed to their art.
MAS pays for recording times for the bands involved in the project, as well as funding weekly rehearsal sessions; but unlike any other label, MAS allow all the acts to retain all copyright, and artists are free to work with other labels simultaneously. There really are no catches.
The Liverpool team is being headed by Jon Hall, who has over ten years experience in the music industry in a myriad different capacities, initially starting out in a weekend recording studio in north Wales, which had previously been host to The Stone Roses‘ aborted early sessions for The Second Coming.
Jon then established indie label Spank Records in 2000, and saw the industry undergo it’s biggest period of change since the wax cylinder.
Being the boss of a small label meant that he had to get his hands dirty in many different aspects, assuming the role of manager, agent, PR and mentor. Since putting the label into hibernation in 2008, Jon has concentrated more on his first love, and now can usually be found behind a mixing desk, looking after live sound duties for touring acts internationally.
Being involved in bringing MAS Records to Liverpool allows me to bring my experience of the industry to a whole new group of talented people, many of whom I’ve seen when working in local venues such as Leaf on Bold St and The Shipping Forecast.
It’s great to be able to offer practical support to those truly deserving of it, and I’m looking forward to hearing about lots of bands I’ve not yet seen.
Anyone interested in getting involved should get in touch with Jon on [email protected] before August 14.
