Peace performing at Sound City 2015

With the midlands four piece returning to the city following their show-stopping Sound City performance, Getintothis’ Lily Corke-Butters looks forward.

Peace have announced that they are to kick off their UK tour on September 24 at Liverpool’s O2 Academy, no less, in what promises to be an almighty show.

The Worcester four-piece attracted massive crowds at this year’s Sound City, with glitter-clad teenagers throwing themselves around the Baltic Stage en mass.

Peace emerged in 2009 as part of the Midlands B-Town scene alongside the likes of Swim Deep and Superfood. They released their debut album In Love in 2013, swiftly followed by this year’s Happy People, with both reaching the UK Top 20.

Peace have clearly done their musical homework, producing powerful lyrics and catchy hooks with unashamed influences from such greats as the Beatles and The Cure. Frontman Harrison Koisser never fails to inject a touch of glitter, often sporting second hand furs and sequins.

Tones of Johnny Marr are noticeable in guitarist Douglas Castle, whilst solid bass lines from Harry‘s brother Sam tip a strong nod to funk, particularly during his solo in consistent crowd pleaser World Pleasure. Drummer Dominic Boyce pulls the whole outfit together with bags of personality emanating from the back of the stage.

Despite the obvious maturity of Happy People, anyone who caught them at Sound City will tell you that their gigs remain as audacious and spirited as ever.

Joining Peace will be London bands Splashh and Yak, all of whom share a driving ambition to maintain the UK alternative scene through “the power of positive thinking“.
