Swapping maths books for sweet hooks, Declan McKenna brings his 16-year-old youthful exuberance, and a shed load of raw talent to Studio 2 later this month, as Getintothis’ Lorna Gray reports.

Most 16 -year-olds are currently buckling down and preparing for their exams; their main worries being solving ridiculous maths equations, with the high possibility they’ll never use them again for whatever their future may hold. One lad that definitely won’t need to be breaking a sweat over fractions is southerner Declan McKenna, whose future is almost certainly going to be within music as a whirlwind 2015 has shown.

London-based McKenna has already won people over by winning Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent competition, securing himself a slot on one of the main stages, as well as several successful London shows. He is currently hyping himself up for a fun start to the year, as he will be heading out on tour with Lisbon hitting Liverpool’s Studio 2 on Parr Street.

McKenna’s melodic indie sound is unique and contains loops so catchy they’ll stick in your mind for hours. The depth of the lyrics highlight his unbelievable song writing skills, at 16, McKenna has written Brazil, a song about the corruption of FIFA and paracetemol, which highlights struggles teenagers face today, a testament to just how talented this newcomer is, with profound lyrics and well-produced nostalgic melodies.

You can catch Declan McKenna supporting Lisbon on January 19.
