Venus Demilo

With a FestEVOL set on the cards and gathering momentum for their polished early outings, Getintothis’ Patrick Clarke gets stuck in to newcomers Venus Demilo.

Venus Demilo‘s new single, Sinking Ships, feels like a watershed moment for the Merseyside four-piece. With months spent slaving on the Liverpool circuit they’ve built a worthy following, and on their perfectly poised first forays onto record they’re showing the craftsmanship not to disappoint them.

The foursome show an ear for the intricately crafted on the two tracks they’ve made available thus far, veering from a delicate, glistening centrepiece for Tom Anderson‘s vocal, to a severe, transporting rush of grinding guitar.

As well as Venus Demilo there’s 17 more essential sets to catch, all the stage times and a chance to win free tickets in our FestEVOL preview.

Of their two tracks available thus far, Sinking Ships, the more recent, is the most distinct distillation of their  multi-faceted sound, a slow-burner that bursts into blistering in life for its latter half. You can see the track’s official video below.

Earlier track Sophia, meanwhile, is a perfectly hewn weave of guitar-pop precision, concluding in an epic crescendo to round off a confident, composed debut single.

From Blossoms to Hooton Tennis Club, the upper half of this year’s FestEVOL bill is packed with must-sees, but with Venus Demilo opening the afternoon at the District Stage, be sure to get there early.
