Download Festival 2017 lines up legends and supergroups for June weekend, Getintothis’ Vicky Pea has the full details.

Download Festival once again takes to the fields of Donington this summer.

With festival season well and truly within sight we find ourselves looking to the heavier options available, of which Download continues to be one of the biggest and best of.

One thing you can always expect, or three things, is huge headliners and 2017’s line up is no different.

Making a long awaiting return to finally complete a hat-trick of headline appearances (2005, 2011) are System of a Down. We’re predicting riotous mosh pits reminiscent of Rage Against the Machine’s 2010 set.

Speaking of rage, a recent entry into the super-group fray Prophets of Rage will be supporting the Friday night mainstage headliners, whilst elsewhere the night turns extra nostalgic with Sum 41 and Good Charlotte on the bill.

Saturday night welcomes Scottish superstars Biffy Clyro who make their first headline appearance at Download having played the main support slot before Metallica in 2012.

Sunday night as long been legends night and 2017 continues the tradition with Aerosmith. Taking the closing slot for the third time (2010, 2014) we hope they’re strutting in the sun, as opposed to the deluge of rain that we’ve become accustom to over the past couple of years. If there’s one addition to the line up we’re hoping for, it’s some sun!

The new Download tradition

Spanning 3 days in June the festival remains a strong favourite for those that like to spend a few days living off cider in a field (who doesn’t) and still manages to cater for both the most hardcore and casual of fans.

The 2017 line up is peppered with acts of legendary status including Slayer, Rob Zombie, Suicidal Tendencies and Opeth as well as a new generation of acts appealing to the new generation of rock fans such as God Damn, Fizzy Blood, Idles and more we’re sure to discover in person.

  • Download Festival takes place June 9 to June 11 at the spiritual home of rock, Donington Park.
