Captain Beefheart

Celebrating the anniversary of Captain Beefheart’s first Bluecoat exhibition, Getintothis’ Adam Lowerson has the details of a weekend of special events.

Captain Beefheart is to be celebrated with a weekend of special events across Liverpool, 45 years on from his first exhibition of paintings at the Bluecoat.

Taking place at a number of venues across the city from November 10-12, the weekend will celebrate the life and work of the cult musician through music, visuals, art, writing and performance.

The weekend is devised by independent curator Kyle Percy, working in collaboration with Chris McCabe (poet and Head Librarian, National Poetry Library) and the Bluecoat’s Artistic Director Bryan Biggs.

The Bluecoat at 300 – an oasis of art, music and creativity in the heart of Liverpool

The programme will feature a performance by Beefheart‘s The Magic Band at the Philharmonic Music Room on November 10, a symposium and a music event with a range of Beefheart-inspired musicians performing their own original works alongside reworkings of Beefheart songs. Line-up includes Edgar Jones and the New Joneses, Dave McCabe and special guest and former Magic Band member Gary Lucas.

The full weekend programme is as follows:
