The first wave of acts for this year’s Manchester Psych Festival have been announced, Getintothis’ Matthew Wood supplies the goods.

Manchester Psych Festival returns for a sixth year this summer on September 1, and is set to be their biggest event yet.

Set across three venues, Night & Day Cafe, The Soup Kitchen and Band on the Wall, psych merchants will lap up state-altering sounds in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter, with tickets starting at a mere £12.50.

Among the first wave of bands we have our very own GIT Award winners, She Drew The Gunalongside fellow female led acts, Honeyblood, Yassasin and the mesmeric Josefin Öhrn fulfilling the festival’s aim to represent a more diverse bill and to give more female artists an equal platform in the psych industry.

The lineup also features acid psych veterans The Asteroid No.4, who have been conjuring iridescent compositions since the late 90’s as a five piece, penning a record with Kaleidoscope front man, Peter Daltrey in 2013.

Future classic films – ten temporary classics that are destined for greatness

Brighton duo, AK/DK will bring their foray of synths and drums to the mix, channeling explosive space-age kraut rock, plus local Manchester representatives, ILL, who magnify meaty issues of misogyny, infidelity and over-medicating through their jarring brand of DIY post-punk.

We expect another wave of acts to be announced very soon, so keep em peeled. You can purchase tickets from 9am, Friday, April 20.
