Alison Mosshart has announced the release of her debut solo single Rise, and Getintothis’ Danni King has all the details.

Best known as one-half of acclaimed rock duo The Kills, or lead single of blues foursome The Dead Weather, solo material is new territory for Mosshart.

Having been compiling a bank of unreleased solo material for over a decade, she’s finally taken the chance to release under her own name.

Rise has been in the making since 2013, when Mosshart wrote the initial sketch for the record. Mosshart recalls: “I didn’t ever forget it. I remember right where I was when I wrote it, sitting at my desk in London, missing someone badly.

Then along came her chance. The team behind FacebookWatch drama Sacred Lies sought out her musical talent for a signature song, and Mosshart knew Rise had the right kind of vibe.

Rise then debuted on 11th April, in the final episode of Sacred Lies.

Mosshart already boasts an impressive career, from collaborations with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Primal Scream and Foo Fighters, to publishing her own book CAR MA, solo material was one of the only things she’d left untouched.

Rise was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Lawrence Rothman, and released on Domino Records. Mosshart has been putting isolation to use, teaching herself to edit video footage from a recent trip to LA to create a video for the song.

Don’t be alarmed though, this doesn’t mark the end for The Kills, as Mosshart is currently working with Jamie Hince on the next Kills record, with hopes of a tour after the current pandemic settles.
