Reading and Leeds festival has been cancelled for 2020, Getintothis’ Sian Ellis reports.
Reading and Leeds Festivals have cancelled dates for 2020, after the COVID-19 crisis continues to interfere with this year’s music events.
The news was announced via an update to the Reading and Leeds festival Twitter page, which explains the reasoning behind the decision.
The update states: “Reading and Leeds will no longer be taking place this year.
“We’ve been closely monitoring this unprecedented situation and we were hopeful we could deliver the ultimate festival to you in August, something to look forward to in these strange and confusing times.
“However, it has become clear that it’s just not possible for this year’s festival to go ahead.”
The cancellation is just one of several music events to be reconsidered due to COVID-19, and joins a growing list of other festivals that won’t go ahead in 2020 – including Supersonic Festival and Rebellion Festival.
The update includes gratitude to artists, partners, teams and fans; as well as details on refunds or the option for fans to retain their ticket until the 2021 festival.

Reading and Leeds festival also promise that the 2021 will be worth the wait, ending the update with words of encouragement: “Keep safe, keep healthy and look after each other’.
