The final Deep Cuts of 2017 finishes with an all-star bill on December 7 featuring hip hop, electronica and whacked out rock and roll, Getintothis’ Peter Guy reveals what’s in store.

Deep Cuts returns to Buyers Club for it’s final hurrah of 2017 on December 7 at 7pm.

We’ve lined up a festive fandango featuring five artists from all corners of the music spectrum – Rico Don, The Holograms, LUNA, Samurai Kip and Marmalade.

Regulars to these pages will be well versed in the prodigious talent of Liverpool MC Rico Don. Emerging alongside contemporaries Ayode and Wrigz his 2016 hard-hitting mixtape Hope brought him to wider attention across Merseyside while his Vibrations EP showcased his versatility blending smoother beats and soulful grooves. More recently he’s collaborated with Beyond Average‘s Jeopardy and B.O. and represented the city in London with the Redbull Grime Aside MC battle.

Samurai Kip are one of Liverpool’s hottest new guitar bands; almost unclassifiable, their sound is an elasticated woozy whimsy laced with tripped out sonics, howling vocals and an interstellar musicality which defies usual song structures. See their latest track Ode To Moonlight, an eight minute journey through Steely Dan jazz-timings, washed out riffing and frenetic rhythms. Noted for their live shows, this is one band you need to get into your life.

Another no stranger to these pages, we welcome the long overdue Deep Cuts debut of LUNA aka Kate Hazeldine. Having emerged in late 2014, LUNA has developed her early work which married fractured electronica with her powerful vocal into a full blown band affair combining stark beats, echo-laden glitchy rhythms and an enchanting stage presence. Having played alongside Let’s Eat Grandma in 2016, LUNA‘s latest (and best) live outing saw her play alongside Kero Kero Bonito at a packed EBGBs at Liverpool Music Week.

Keeping things fresh, Marmalade are the new name to these pages. Formed a little under a year ago, they cite the likes of Radiohead, Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Snarky Puppy as influences and given the progressive nature of their noise, it’s easy to see why. With a superlative set at LMW supporting Little Cub under their belt, this will offer new listeners a first chance to hear one of the regions rising new bands.

Completing the bill are Scouse fuzzheads, The Holograms. Blending the glam-stomp of yesteryear with a futuristic take on psychedelia, the band have pricked ears with mighty slots alongside Syd Arthur and a barnstorming set with The Vryll Society in Magnet back in July. With Anxiety and Loose Mind they’ve two heavy slabs of rock and roll under their belt and are currently in the studio crafting their latest compositions – Deep Cuts should provide opportunity to see what they’ve been up to.

Please note, Deep Cuts #11 starts at the slightly earlier time of 7pm and has a 10.30pm curfew.
