Big news this. Literally…
Liverpool’s Mugstar have continued their remarkable journey traversing the sonic galaxy by teaming up with long-time influence Oneida.
The two bands are to collaborate on an epic 12″ split vinyl called Collisions on Rocket Recordings released on Monday October 3.
Both bands have seemingly attempted to utilise as much wax as possible, with Mugstar‘s whopper weighing in at 16 minutes 38 seconds, putting Oneida‘s positively snappy 15 minute 33 second effort in the shade. There track is call Shahin’s Bong. But, of course.

Mugstar’s Jason Stoll passed on a copy of Collisions to Getintothis earlier this week and the results are incredible.
Long-time fans will lap up the characteristic opening eight minutes of intense riffing and rhythm trading with Pete Smyth‘s sinister synth stabs. But it’s the second half which showcases the band’s versatility as vocal harmonies weave in among chopping bass and lazer-guided six-string intricacy courtesy of Neil Murphy.
It doesn’t so much climax in the usual blitz of explosions but leaves you dizzy, lost within the charred smoke.

The split release comes fresh from a raft of gigs including closing Liverpool Sound City 2011 and a magnificent showing at that Æthenor gig.
Mugstar were also main support for Oneida‘s only 2011 UK show last month at the Lexington in London.

Lime, which was number 22 in Getintothis’ Top 50 Albums of 2010, will be reissued on vinyl by Agitated Records on Tuesday September 6. Before that the band support Wooden Shjips at The Scala on Sunday September 4, alongside psyche riff specialists Wolf People. That’s one shithot gig.
