The Mercury Prize 2013 nominations have been announced…

The 12 artists and their respective albums nominated for this year’s Barclaycard Mercury Prize are:
Arctic Monkeys: AM.
David Bowie: The Next Day
Disclosure: Settle
Foals: Holy Fire
Jake Bugg: Jake Bugg
James Blake: Overgrown
Jon Hopkins: Immunity
Laura Marling: Once I Was An Eagle
Laura Mvula: Sing to the Moon
Rudimental: Home
Savages: Silence Yourself
Villagers: Awayland
The Getintothis Predictometer yielded a record result too predicting eight of the 12 artists – which goes to show:
a) We’re boss.
b) The Prize is somewhat predictable
c) Not that many amazing UK albums were released/those above are quite a solid selection
d) All of the above/none of the above
e) Completely nothing.
What this year’s selection does, however, reveal is that the judges have at last dispensed with the TOKEN JAZZ act – which is good, as we suggested earlier in the week.
And finally, this year’s ‘I can’t believe Wild Beasts weren’t nominated’ Award goes to Daughter. The Twitter outrage has already started…
