Ahead of their album launch Getintothis’ Adam Lowerson reflects on The Hummingbirds’ O2 Academy show and a new star teen star in waiting.

Having supported Cast at their Christmas 2013 show, The Hummingbirds are set to release their crowd-funded debut album later this year.

More recently they made a statement of intent selling out the O2 Academy 2 in front of a fervent hometown crowd. One of the outstanding stories from their Academy show was that of support artist Eleanor Nelly, a 14-year-old starlet, who has emerged in the past 12 months as one of Liverpool’s new stars of the future.

Although it’s early days for Nelly, she is already raising eyebrows across the city with her soul-filled country pop sound, which is demonstrated in two recent demos Hope You’re Okay and Only You, available on her Soundcloud. What she lacks in years and experience, she makes up for in raw talent. Definitely one to watch for in the future.

The Hummingbirds return with their album launch gig on November 29 at the O2 Academy.

The Sugarmen, meanwhile, fresh from playing Festival No. 6 have been decamped in The ClashsMick Jones‘ London studio recording new tracks for their debut release. Sources close to the camp say their delighted with the results and can’t wait to road test them in the coming months.
