Liverpool Sound City invites bands to play while revealing it is to become a two day event, Getintothis’ Adam Lowerson has all the details.

Liverpool Sound City has launched this year’s Apply To Play scheme for the 2016 festival, along with the news the event will now run as a two day festival on May 28 and 29, rather than the three days it has been in the past.

Now in its eighth year, and its second on the new site at the Bramley Moore Docks, the festival will also include its music and digital industry conference, which starts on May 27 and runs alongside the music event. The conference, which has now been renamed Sound City +, has in the past featured key note speeches from Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Mark E Smith and John Cale.

The changes to the festival, according to Sound City organisers have been made as it “gives us the ability to programme a more immersive and content-rich festival from the moment the site opens to when it closes. To achieve this, we have substantially increased our artist and wider arts budget to bring in more of the content that you love.

To compensate people who purchased the Super Early Bird wristbands back in June (presumably on the proviso it would be a three day festival) all of their tickets will now be being upgraded to full Delegate Passes (worth £150) free of charge.

The Apply to Play scheme, which you can enter here, has been hugely successful in the past and has brought artists such as Dan Croll, Grimes and Ed Sheeran to the festival in the past.

Liverpool Sound City 2015 featured headline performances from The Flaming Lips, Belle and Sebastian and the Vaccines, as well as sets from Swans, Peace, The Cribs and Everything Everything.
