Underground indie hero turned acoustic troubadour Malcolm Middleton has set a Merseyside date, as GetintothisDavid Hall reports.

Former Arab Strap main man Malcolm Middleton has announced a solo show at Liverpool’s Leaf on June 3.

The Scotsman will be dropping his distinctive foul-mouthed blend of unrepentant yet somehow uplifting miserablism upon Leaf this summer with tracks such as We’re All Going to Die, Fuck It, I Love You and Ballad of Fuck All to call upon, all just as happy and smiley as their titles sound.

Malcolm Middleton’s latest release was under his Human Don’t Be Angry moniker, which he is scheduled to follow up later this year with Summer of ’13, his ninth solo studio album. Having added more layers and further instrumentation to sparse-sounding early material as his solo career has progressed, Middleton’s new material marks something of a sea change.

Summer of ’13 will be preceded by the infectious, electronica-dominated shimmer of his new single You and I. Its dancey vibe is provided by Glasgow-based producer Miaoux Miaoux and marks Middleton’s debut release with London’s Nude Records.

What form his new material will take in Middleton’s just-announced run of shows – visiting Liverpool along with five other UK dates currently – will certainly be an intriguing proposition.

Malcolm Middleton will play Leaf on Friday June 3, with support TBA.
