Prince tribute party celebration: Buyers Club, Liverpool

Liverpool came together to celebrate the life and music of Prince at a very purple Buyers Club.

Hundreds of scouse Prince devotees took to Liverpool’s own Buyers Club last Friday night for a massive celebration of the artist who captured our imaginations like few others.

The venue’s bar was lit all in purple, with attendees encouraged to come in full costume for an all-out tribute to the superstar, following his unexpected death a week earlier.  For almost five hours, the packed house of purple hippies were delirious with five hours of non-stop Prince.

Powering through some early sound problems (which were thankfully resolved quickly), The DJ’s played a mixture of classic hits, rare cuts, b-sides and related artists such as The Time, Shelia E, Martika, The Family, Chaka Khan and more, delighting the hundreds assembled.

The emotional high point was the Purple Rain ending, with every single person in the room screaming the final “woo-hoo-hoo-hoos” at the song’s end.

Very much a celebration of life as opposed to the mourning of his passing, we did what he would have wanted us to do; we partied.

On the way out, several people stopped us and asked if we were doing it again. What do you say we make this an annual thing?
