Bluedot

Kraftwerk, New Order, Hot Chip and more set for Bluedot Festival 2019 line up and Getintothis’ Peter Goodbody has all the details.

We’d known for a while that Kraftwerk were the big draw for 2019’s Bluedot Festival, but now the full line up is out and it looks an absolute cracker.

Other big names added to the bill include New Order, Kate Tempest, 808 State and Hot Chip who will all surely deliver a magnificent weekend in the Cheshire summer under the watchful gaze of Jodrell Bank’s Lovell Telescope.

Born in 2016 the festival has quickly established itself as an essential part of the holidays and has managed to get big names for each iteration. This year is no different.

With a stated mission to inspire and entertain, Bluedot is a festival like no other as it mixes the music with science and culture. Not only are there the bands and DJ sets you would expect to see, there are lectures, discussions and workshops covering all aspects of human endeavour, whether serious or more ephemeral.

Expect a special celebration to mark 50 years since the first moon landings as well as an, as yet unidentified, nod towards a similar anniversary of the TV show The Clangers.

But, we’re mostly here for the music and casting our eye down the bill throws up some lip smacking delights.

GIT Award winners, She Drew The Gun, for starters as well as local team TVAM will go down well with the punters. So too, recent visitors to Liverpool, Juniore and Henge will surely prove popular. Recent Rough Trade album of the month pick Gabe Gurnsey also features.

We’ve also made a note on our phones to catch Gogo Penguin, Gruff Rhys, The Go! Team, Ibibio Sound Machine (also a Rough Trade album pick a while back), Les Amazones du Afrique, The Lucid Dream and Audiobooks. But, that’s just our view – YMMV.

The science names may not trip off the tongue in the same way as the musical headliners, but trust us, if last year was anything to go by, then there will be erudite, but easy to digest, discussions ranging from anything from the space missions, climate change, the search for extra terrestrial life and all things in between.

Whatever is planned to celebrate The Clangers’ 50th birthday is bound to be a sell out. Such is the way of these things.

The Jodrell Bank site is perfect for festival such as Bluedot. Away from the main arena stages, there are wooded areas, nooks, crannies, small stages and all manner of other delights to explore. It is billed as a family friendly fest and it sure is. But there’s something for all tastes, ages and dispositions.

Bluedot 2019 is at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire over 4 days from July 18 – 21. Tickets are on sale now.
