With normal service around Liverpool resuming, there’s quality over quantity for gigs this week and Getintothis’ Simon Kirk has the details.
With many still on the comedown after last week’s Champions League glory, in the case of gigs this week is a bit of a quiet one.
That’s okay, though. There’s still enough to get excited about. After all, it is Liverpool, so what do you expect?
Honeyblood looks to be a good shout, while Jeffrey Lewis will provide this week’s fun in the welcoming vibes of The Baltic Social. If you haven’t been to a gig here before we suggest you start – it’s a good set-up for live music.
And, as always, Parrjazz, The Zanzibar and the Invisible Wind Factory Substation continue to do their respective things, in providing a gateway for the beautiful noise, whether it be in the vein of jazz, beats, or riffs.
As you can see, despite the slight lull, there’s still plenty on offer for those keen to get involved and with the summer approaching, what better way than to warm up with a bevy and some live music?
Our picks for this week.
Hollywood Eyes: Jacaranda Phase One, Monday June 10
Chester based indie pop quarter, Hollywood Eyes, kick start the week with a set at Jacaranda Phase One.
The band land in Liverpool on the back of their new single, Dollhouse, which was released in May.
Parrjazz presents The Alex Hitchcock Quintet: Jacaranda Phase One, Tuesday 11
Saxophonist, Alex Hitchcock, brings his powerhouse quintet to Jac Phase One on the back of his debut album, All Good Things, which was released earlier this year.
Combining melody and virtuosic improvising, Hitchcock’s arrival in Liverpool is a great coup for Parrjazz and with that, we urge you to get along.
Honeyblood: Arts Club, Loft, Tuesday June 11
Honeyblood (now down to just Stina Tweeddale) return to Liverpool on the back of their third album, In Plain Sight.
The Arts Club Loft is one of Honeyblood‘s final stops in what has been a mammoth tour for the Scottish songstress, having been on the road since the beginning of May. Gig of the week here, folks.
Jeffrey Lewis and Los Bolts: The Baltic Social, Wednesday June 12
Comic book artist, Jeffrey Lewis is in town with his band Los Bolts to do what he does best. Knock out odd anti-folk rockers.
On paper, The Baltic Social seems like the perfect place for a Jeffrey Lewis show. Seems to us like it’s a good way to spend your Wednesday.
The Jjohns: Sound Food and Drink, Friday June 14
Get your Friday local fix at Sound Food and Drink with Merseybeat popsters, The Jjohns.
Presented by Soft Lad, The Jjohns will no doubt charm you all with ditties from their self-titled EP released last year. Support comes from The Left Backs.
Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Melle Mel & Scorpio, Furious 5: Shankly Hotel, Saturday 15
Godfathers of hip hop, The Sugarhill Gang & Grandmaster Melle Mel & Scorpio of the Furious 5, are set to take over the Shankly Hotel rooftop on your Saturday night.
