Salford singer Ren Harvieu has released a second single ahead of an upcoming new album and tour, Getintothis’ Will Neville says yes please.
Ren Harvieu’s second album Revel In The Drama will be issued on Bella Union in April, with a video recently released for new single Yes Please.
This is the second cut off the album to be issued, following Teenage Mascara, which came out last September.
This new song is a typically languid, gothic-tinged number with soulful haunting vocals, bringing to mind the likes of a more downbeat Sam Brown or Duffy.
Director Scott Jones referenced David Lynch in his description of the video. Fair enough, as it’s a sensual affair, focusing on a vintage microphone that she appears to try to woo, mildly recalling Blue Velvet.
The new LP addresses what she describes as “some very dark years” as she suffered a broken spine, was dropped by her label and then broke up with her long-term partner and manager, as well as moving away from her hometown Salford.
She was originally discovered on Myspace, which goes to show how long she has been around!
Her debut album for Island Records, Through The Night, hit #5 in the UK albums chart way back in 2012, with the long wait for a follow-up almost over.

Her intriguing eclecticism can perhaps best be seen when noting that she has collaborated with the varied likes of Ed Harcourt, Nas, Romeo Stodart from The Magic Numbers, and Take That’s Mark Owen.
