The Getintothis Social #2 at District on March 19

The Getintothis Social returns for its second instalment in March, Simon Kirk reveals all.

The Getintothis Social rolls back into District on Thursday March 19 with another top line-up of boss new music, story-telling, a music quiz and live jams.

And before you ask. Yup, it’s still FREE entry. No hoodwinking around here.

First up, we are brimming with excitement to bring back our pals, COW who will be unleashing their brand of mind-frying riff-a-rola on the night.

No strangers to us here at Getintothis having played at our Deep Cuts event last year, the purveyors of many a dirty lick released their scintillating EP, All My Friends Are Dead To Me, in December last year.

If you’re yet to enter the world of COW, then here’s the place to go.

Hold an ear to their EP while you’re at. You won’t be disappointed.

Joining COW will be Liverpool garage rockers, Bandit who bring their Strokes inspired version of garage rock to the Getintothis Social.

Having just released their latest single, Dorothy, which follows last year’s single, I’d Try Anything Twice which amassed over 70,000 plays on Spotify (not bad going!), Bandit are embarking on a sharp ascent and no doubt will have some big fish to fry in 2020.

Spoken-word on the night will be performed by local poet, Louise Evans.

Having performed at the Give Poetry A Chance events at the back end of last year, Louise explores and expands on the idea of romance through her readings.

No doubt, Louise will have some more tales up her sleeve and we are really pleased that she is joining the Getintothis Social fray next month.

Of course, last but not least, our host and his house band, Coffee Shop John and the Silver Spoons will return the end the night.

Those who were in attendance last Thursday will agree that John hit it out of the park on the night, hosting the night with aplomb, not to mention playing some tracks alongside great local artists, Astles, Mike Blue and Bobby Taylor.

Coffee Shop John

Let’s see what Coffeeshop John throws up in March in the way of his backing band. Stay tuned for that announcement in the next couple of weeks.

Along with music and spoken-word there will be more tunes from the vaults as well as PG’s Tremendous Quick Fire Quiz.

I think we all need to brush up on our skills a bit after last week’s efforts but suffice to say, the pot for prizes is ever growing thanks to donations from the fine folk at District, Dig Vinyl and ParrJazz.

We hope to see you on Thursday March 19 down at District. Bring a mate and let’s get the fun times rolling.

Lastly, a big thanks to all those who braved storm whatever-the-fuck-its-name-was last Thursday night for our Getintothis Social launch.

Douglas Savage and Motel Sundown showered the crowd with the perfect vibe while Cath Holland‘s spoken-word went down an absolute treat.
