After five years away, Purity Ring are back with a new album, Getintothis’ Matthew Eland reports with the details.

Purity Ring have announced the birth of their new album, WOMB.

The record is the third from the Edmonton, Canada-based duo, following Shrines (2012) and Another Eternity (2015), and it will be delivered by 4AD on April 3, 2020.

Like its predecessors, WOMB was entirely self-produced, with Megan James and Corin Roddick taking on the writing, recording, production and mixing.

The first single to be taken from it is the appropriately twinkly stardew.

Like much of the group’s ouvere, it straddles the line between mainstream pop, such as Ariana Grande and Ellie Goulding, and dream pop, like Beach House and M83.

The band will be hitting the road in the summer, stopping off at Latitude before a Manchester date on September 12.

The group has been relatively quiet over the past few years, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been busy: in 2017 they co-wrote and produced three songs on Katy Perry’s album Witness.

This solid pop pedigree combined with their indie nous will have fans of all stripes ready for WOMB.
