New album releases this week: Run The Jewels, Modern Nature, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Muzz and more

0

Today is packed with fine new album releases and Getintothis’ Simon Kirk does his best whittle it down to just seven.

While things in the U.K. have been returning to some sense of normality, suffice to say, the weather has too over the last couple of days.

We hope you enjoyed the sunnier climes of last week and the first part of this one, too. With several of today’s releases, we’re sure their sounds will coerce the sun to emerge from the current clouds.

Yes, the sound of summer has arrived.

Given the events of the past two weeks in the United States, it’s fair to say that there isn’t a better week for a Run The Jewels record and no doubt it will continue the trend of their last three albums.

El-P and Killer Mike don’t trade in dross and given the current state of affairs in their homeland, it almost feels like it has to be their their most important statement yet.

On that note, enjoy the album and the other great releases which find their way into the world today.

This week’s top picks.

First we have a the second full-length from antipodean rockers, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, who return with Sideways to New Italy.

Not much needs to be said here. Enjoy the sun, enjoy your drink and enjoy this because the Rolling Blackouts don’t deal in disappointment.

Muzz

3. Muzz: Muzz
Matador Records

Muzz, the new project consisting of Paul Banks (Interpol), Josh Kaufman (Bonny Light Horseman), and Matt Barrick (Jonathan Fire*Eater and The Walkmen) release their self-titled debut album album.

Based on the strength of the first two singles, there’s a lot of excitment surrounding this one. You can include us in the fanfare.

4. Modern Nature: Annual
Bella Union

Not messing around, Modern Nature follow-up their brilliant 2019 album, How to Live, with the equally fantastic Annual.

Although more stripped back, Jack Cooper and Co. carve out yet more beautiful songs right here. This is an end of year list contender without a doubt. And with that, we say enjoy.

Bo Ningen team up with Bobby Gillespie for new single Minimal

5. Hinds: The Prettiest Curse
Lucky Number

Yup, the sun is shining bright and so are Hinds, who release their latest bunch of lo-fi pop-rockers with With The Prettiest Curse.

You don’t need to hear us rabbit on about this. The sun is calling you and take this record outside with you. Happy Hinds day.

No Age

6. No Age: Goons Be Gone
Drag City

Duo Randy Randall and Dean Spunt return as No Age for yet another set of high-octane shredders with Goons Be Gone – their second outing with Drag City and the band’s fifth record.

Expect more fuzz. More melody. And, what No Age do best, more goodness. Strap yourselves in for this one, folks.
